ESPN's Suzy Kolber is at Gillette Stadium preparing for the Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots on Monday Night Football and she just reported on ESPN that QB Matt Cassel's injury is a fractured hand. In addition, she reported that the Chiefs could place him on injured reserve as soon as today.
The Chiefs had previously said they were hoping Cassel could return before the end of the season but it doesn't look like that will happen now. Jay Glazer reported on Sunday that Cassel was done for the year and last week Adam Teicher of the KC Star reported that a Chiefs player had told him they were told that Cassel was not coming back.
So, no surprise, really.
But it if the Chiefs do place Cassel on IR, his season will officially be over and the Chiefs will have an extra roster spot to sign someone.
It would be strange to see Cassel land on IR hours before the Chiefs play the Patriots. We'll see if that's what the Chiefs decide to do.
