Chiefs K Ryan Succop Is AFC's Special Teams Player Of The Week

On the Chiefs Kingdom show on 810 WHB on Monday night, Chiefs head coach Todd Haley said kicker Ryan Succop came up to him the night before the game to thank him for supporting him throughout the week. Succop had made just 2-of-5 field goals on the season and really seemed to be struggling entering Week 4.

That all changed on Sunday when Succop hit 5-of-5 field goals and claiming responsibility for 16 of the Chiefs' 22 points against the Minnesota Vikings. Those five field goals tied a franchise record, as did hitting two from beyond 50.

For that, Succop has been named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week, the NFL announced.

(He also won the much less more prestigious game ball of the week from us.)

The last special teamer of the week award for the Chiefs came in Week 1 last year with Dexter McCluster setting a Chiefs franchise record with a 94-yard punt return for a touchdown.
