It now looks like kicker Sebastian Janikowski is out for Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs after suffering a hamstring injury. That is good news because now the Raiders will have to get in normal field goal range to score points. Janikowski is known for his big leg and accuracy. He is 12 for 13 this year including a 63 yard field goal.
The Raiders signed former Kansas City Chief David Rayner who has made 55 out of 75 field goals attempted in his career. Rayner's longest field goal was from 55 yards. Rayner was one of three kickers that the Raiders tried out. The Raiders will be the 8th team Rayner has been on including the Detroit Lions last year. This is just temporary as Janikowski will most likely return after the Raiders bye in week 8.
This is a significant downgrade to one of the best special teams unit in the NFL. It could also prove to be the difference of a win or loss for the Kansas City Chiefs.
