The Oakland Raiders have acquired Carson Palmer from the Cincinnati Bengals on the day of the NFL trade deadline which comes five days before the Kansas City Chiefs make the trip out west to face the Raiders.
After going through the details of the trade, the next question becomes when we'll see Palmer on the field. More to the point, it's whether we'll see Palmer on the field this Sunday when the bad guys host the good guys.
There are two ways to look at this.
On the one hand, it makes sense to let Palmer sit this weekend against the Chiefs, have the bye week to prepare and then start a new era with the Raiders in Week 8. Palmer hasn't played in 10 months, didn't go through training camp and may not be in "football shape".
On the other hand, Palmer is familiar with Hue Jackson, the Raiders head coach. The two worked together way back when at USC and again in Cincinnati for a few years. There's reason to believe that Palmer could quickly pick up the offense, or at least enough to learn how to hand off to Darren McFadden.
The Raiders are conducting a press conference this evening and Jackson will be asked who's starting this weekend. Who do you think gets the nod?
