The Kansas City Chiefs signed WR Kevin Curtis on Wednesday which happens to be the same day Dwayne Bowe missed practice. Chiefs head coach Todd Haley was vague on Curtis' role, especially this weekend against the Baltimore Ravens, but left the door open that this wasn't a one week, insurance type of signing.
Haley said he's done a lot of work on Curtis and though he hasn't worked with him he's familiar with the offense. Curtis spent two weeks with the Dolphins, who have similar philosophies to the Chiefs offense.
Curtis said that up until yesterday he was just kind of hanging out in Miami, working out and waiting for someone to call, although he admitted he thought the season was over for him. In fact, he said he was getting a little bored.
So the Chiefs called and he made his way here last night. He said he was "fortunate" to be in this situation and that he's in good shape right now, although of course it would be better to have a full season behind him.
Now for the big question: Is he playing this weekend?
If he does know, he's not telling us. He says he came here for the opportunity but did note that he's familiar with the offense as if he would be ready in a pinch. Haley left the door open for Curtis possibly playing this weekend. Sounds like this is something we'll find out on game day when the inactives come out.
If Curtis isn't playing this weekend, then this could be viewed as a situation where the Chiefs wanted to cheaply sign him now to get him onto their offseason roster moving forward.
