Chiefs WR Jerheme Urban Preparing For A NFL Lockout

One of the shadows hanging over the 2011 NFL offseason will be the possibility of a lockout. It's impossible to have a conversation about the offseason, free agency or the 2011 NFL draft without bringing up the consequences of a lockout. It will affect everything.

Chiefs WR Jerheme Urban was on injured reserve last season with a finger issue and didn't play. He's spending his time in San Antonio rehabbing and talked with the Victoria Advocate recently after being selected to the D3Football.com All-Decade team.

The topic: NFL lockout.

"I'm dealing with the possibility of a lockout," Urban said. "I'm definitely expecting there to be a season, but who knows how long of a season. No matter what happens, I don't want to have to worry about being out of shape."

Luckily, Urban's been medically cleared to practice at full. Because if he wasn't, it could be a problem. The players health insurance will run out on March 3 meaning they'd potentially be responsible for any costs related to rehabbing.

Hopefully, the Chiefs don't have to worry about players staying in shape. Having guys who are willing to stay in shape on their own time could be a fairly big deal if part of training camp or even the season is wiped out and you need to hit the ground running. Teams and players can not communicate after the CBA expires in March.

Urban has one year remaining on his contract with the Chiefs which is scheduled to pay him $640,000.
