It's not very often you flip on the 5:00 a.m. edition of SportsCenter and find Kansas City Chiefs QB Matt Cassel being quoted. But, there he was on the TV this morning, as the ESPN cameras went around the Pro Bowl asking various players about their reaction to the reaction to Jay Cutler.
If you've been living under a rock (or using TV as your only news source), the Jay Cutler story is that he came out of the NFC Championship game with a knee injury and lots of people -- from fans to media to former players -- criticized him and questioned his toughness.
Cassel's response:
"I just think it's really interesting from a fellow player that, you know, all of us are out here competing and doing our best and for a lot of people to criticize someone that they don't really know the circumstances but to go out on a limb and speculate is a little ridiculous."
Cassel of all people should know. You know what injury he had in the third preseason game of the 2009 season? Sprained MCL -- same as Cutler. You know how much time he missed? Two weeks -- not two quarters like Cutler.
As far as toughness with Cassel, I think the appendectomy told us what we wanted to know about that.
