The Kansas City Chiefs will now have five six players on the 2011 Pro Bowl roster. The Chiefs announced on Sunday night after the AFC Championship game that S Eric Berry and LB Tamba Hali are both headed to Hawaii.
It looks like Berry and Hali will be replacing two of the Pittsburgh Steelers that will be in the Super Bowl -- S Troy Polamalu and LB James Harrison.
Berry becomes the first Chiefs rookie to head to the Pro Bowl since...Derrick Thomas. That was in 1989 so this is a pretty major accomplishment. He was the first Chiefs rookie to lead the team in interceptions since CB Dale Carter in 1992 and ranked first in interceptions for all rookie safeties this year. The Chiefs had a high draft pick and it looks like they nailed it with Berry.
Hali was arguably the biggest snub of all AFC Pro Bowl participants leading the AFC in sacks with 14.5. He becomes the first Chiefs LB to make the Pro Bowl since DT in 1997. He's so deserving of this and I'm glad he'll be getting recognized. He's the best pass rusher not everyone has heard of.
Those two will join RB Jamaal Charles, WR Dwayne Bowe and G Brian Waters on the roster. QB Matt Cassel was also named as a replacement for New England Patriots QB Tom Brady this week.
