2011 NFL Draft: Chiefs And Recent History Of The 21st Pick

The 2011 NFL draft is on its way and the Kansas City Chiefs hold the 21st pick. This is different from the last three years when the Chiefs held a top five pick in the draft and we could list their options on one hand. Picking later in the draft means a lot more options and less clarity on what the Chiefs will do.

I wanted to figure out what kind of player the Chiefs can get with the 21st pick. The draft is still a gamble -- no matter how much scouting you do -- so there's been a wide range of picks at the 21st spot of busts (Matt Jones) and steals (Vince Wilfork).

For fun, here's a list of the last 10 players that were drafted at No. 21. I could live with a Wilfork-type player at No. 21:
  • Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham
  • Browns C Alex Mack
  • Falcons T Sam Baker
  • Jaguars S Reggie Nelson
  • Patriots RB Laurence Maroney
  • Jaguars WR Matt Jones
  • Patriots NT Vince Wilfork
  • Browns C Jeff Faine
  • Patriots TE Daniel Graham
  • Bills DB Nate Clements
