The 2011 NFL draft is on its way and the Kansas City Chiefs hold the 21st pick. This is different from the last three years when the Chiefs held a top five pick in the draft and we could list their options on one hand. Picking later in the draft means a lot more options and less clarity on what the Chiefs will do.
I wanted to figure out what kind of player the Chiefs can get with the 21st pick. The draft is still a gamble -- no matter how much scouting you do -- so there's been a wide range of picks at the 21st spot of busts (Matt Jones) and steals (Vince Wilfork).
For fun, here's a list of the last 10 players that were drafted at No. 21. I could live with a Wilfork-type player at No. 21:
- Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham
- Browns C Alex Mack
- Falcons T Sam Baker
- Jaguars S Reggie Nelson
- Patriots RB Laurence Maroney
- Jaguars WR Matt Jones
- Patriots NT Vince Wilfork
- Browns C Jeff Faine
- Patriots TE Daniel Graham
- Bills DB Nate Clements
