As many of you know by now, Baltimore Ravens assistant Al Saunders is headed to Oakland to become the Raiders offensive coordinator. This news had been expected for a couple of days but it's still surprisingly a good hire.
Saunders has been with the Chiefs most of my life starting in 1989 with Marty and continuing to 1998 and then again from 2001 to 2005 with Dick Vermeil.
The Raiders hired Hue Jackson as head coach this week so this is a solid move by him. The Raiders are clearly focusing on the quarterback and the offense so bringing in someone like Jackson and Saunders should be good for Jason Campbell's development.
As a Chiefs fan, this is not good news. Saunders is a very good coach and he can hurt the Chiefs if he keeps Oakland going in the wrong direction.
It's one thing for the Raiders to draft and acquire good players. It's another for them to have a solid coaching staff.
Jackson said at the Al Davis press conference this week that he would be the primary play caller.
I am officially nervous that the Raiders are going in the right direction.
