Just one day after the Kansas City Chiefs season-opening victory on Monday Night Football, the team announced Denny Thum would be stepping down as club president. The news came as a surprise and we never heard much of a follow up on his replacement.
At the time, my money was on COO Mark Donovan moving up and that's what the Chiefs did. The team announced Donovan has been promoted to President of the Chiefs.
The Chiefs press release says Donovan will be responsible for all of business operations and report directly to Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, who says the Chiefs have the top executive team in sports.
"Mark has been a critical member of the organization since joining us in May of 2009, and I am delighted to promote him to president," Hunt said. "With Mark directing the business operations of the Chiefs and Scott Pioli running the football operations, I believe we have one of the finest executive teams in professional sports."
We've seen what Scott Pioli can do in a year and NFL folks speak highly of Donovan so Clark Hunt may have a point.
