I've been reading a few Kansas City Chiefs stories this week about the player-coaches, including LB Mike Vrabel. Josh Looney of KCChiefs.com has a nice tidbit on Vrabel and potentially coaching at some point in life.
That reminded me that this isn't the first time we've mentioned Vrabel and coaching. From some of his previous statements, it seems like coaching will be in his future.
Here's what Cleveland Browns coach Eric Mangini said last year before they played the Chiefs:
"I imagine he’ll eventually go into coaching and he’ll be outstanding."
"I’m telling you, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s not coaching major college football or pro football at some point and be really successful."
So could the Chiefs have a future linebackers coach on their hands? Maybe not. Vrabel, a former Buckeye, has previously said he would "love to go back to Ohio State in any capacity."
''I've got a lot of friends who coach there, gotten to know some of the players by working out there in the offseason. I would say that would be the only place I would probably coach. If I could get into coaching, I would probably look there first.''
The Chiefs have been pretty complimentary of Vrabel this week as a coach. He's likely one of the big reasons Todd Haley made this decision to have player-coaches during the bye week.
