The Kansas City Chiefs had 75 players on the roster (Jarrad Page doesn't count) as of Friday evening.
Now they have 68.
The Chiefs released seven players: TE Leroy Banks, WR Rich Gunnell, C Lemuel Jeanpierre, G/T Ike Ndukwe, CB Mike Richardson, LB John Russell, G Dan Santucci.
TE Leroy Banks: He was a tight end signed in June when Brad Cottam and Tony Moeaki were out. He probably didn't have a good chance to make the roster anyway.
WR Rich Gunnell: He was an undrafted free agent that was just a camp body.
C Lemuel Jeanpierre: With both Casey Wiegmann and Rudy Niswanger, Jeanpierre didn't have much of a chance to make the roster.
G/T Ikechuku Ndukwe: The first surprise of cut day. Ndukwe was spelled Brian Waters on the second team Thursday evening against the Green Bay Packers.
CB Mike Richardson: Another slight surprise because he was on the team last year as a special teams player.
LB John Russell: Russell was signed during training camp and, considering the state of the Chiefs linebackers, didn't stand a good chance.
G Dan Santucci: He was also signed during training camp and, like Russell, didn't have a good chance coming in late.
