One interesting aspect of Sunday's game between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers is that the 49ers are coming off of a Monday Night Football game operating on a short week. The Chiefs just got over doing that after beating the San Diego Chargers and then the Cleveland Browns on a short week.
On Monday, Chiefs head coach Todd Haley talked to the media and addressed just how difficult it was to prepare for the Browns on a short week
"I know that on a short week following that late Monday night game and the emotional win that last week was a very, very difficult week that I probably didn’t let on much or tried not to," Haley said. "It was a very difficult week, both mentally and physically for all of us, most specifically the players, for a lot of different reasons.
"As the week went on, I don’t think we ever had one of those ‘A ’ practices, we were able to get a little better each day."
Two observations: First, good for the Chiefs that they can come in and win a game when things weren't necessarily going their way. Second, those hardships that Haley describes will now be occurring to the 49ers as they prepare for the Chiefs.
This short week could be difficult for the 49ers as they head back home for a couple days (already a day behind) and prepare to travel to Kansas City. If it was hard for the Chiefs to do, I imagine it will be for the 49ers as well.
