In preparations for Monday Night Football (and a 9:15 p.m. start) against the San Diego Chargers, the Kansas City Chiefs are holding a night practice at Arrowhead Stadium this evening.
Hours ago McCluster was ruled as doubtful for the game against the Chargers. Doubtful, in the NFL's language, means that a player almost certainly won't play.
Bob Gretz reports on CBSSports.com that McCluster practiced on Saturday evening. That has to be considered a good sign even if it were just individual stuff he was doing. He missed practice on Friday, was listed as doubtful on Saturday and then practices on Saturday evening.
What kind of illness could Dexter McCluster have that would prompt the Kansas City Chiefs coaches to list him on Saturday afternoon as doubtful but then to see him practice that evening?
That's an interesting time line there but everything at this point is speculation.
Also practicing was LB Tamba Hali who is questionable for the Chiefs. It's seemed likely this week that Hali would play despite missing a little time earlier in the week with some sort of ankle injury.
Stay tuned on McCluster. It's possible we haven't heard the end of him in week one. The Chiefs are conducting a walk-through on Sunday (no media) so we won't know McCluster's status until game time.
