Chiefs vs. Chargers: Missing McCluster Would Be A Major Disappointment

When talking about the Kansas City Chiefs this week, a few San Diego Chargers players have referenced the Chiefs run game as a strength of the team. They've also referenced Dexter McCluster who's supposed to do some running and receiving.

Chargers ILB Stephen Cooper said this week, "We want to make sure we have a guy in his face, make sure we keep him contained and don't let him outside. As long as we keep him bottled up and hit him as much as possible, I think we'll be alright."

That would indicate that the Chargers have plans to defend McCluster because he's kind of a unique case.

That the Chiefs may not have him would be a killer. There are a few reasons McCluster's presence would make things so much easier.

Takin' it to the house. If McCluster is out, the Chiefs only game breaker is Jamaal Charles. This is the type of game where the Chiefs will need some sort of surprise touchdown -- long reception, big run from Charles, etc. That's one less person who can accomplish that.

Finally answering how he'll be used. We wanted to have an answer to how McCluster will be used. He's listed as a receiver but saw plenty of time at running back during the preseason. If he doesn't play, we'll be left wondering that once again.

The excitement on MNF. Let's face it - this crowd needs something to get excited about. That something could be Dexter McCluster. He's been far and away the most exciting and talked about Chief since training camp. Not having a national audience be able to see him would be very disappointing, especially for a team that's struggling with its image nationally.
