Chiefs GM On Eric Berry: 'This Is A Guy That Really Knows What To Do'

Through his first week of training camp, it's becoming pretty clear that Kansas City Chiefs rookie safety Eric Berry will be one of the starting safeties.

He lined up with the first team almost immediately during offseason workouts and continued to do the same in training camp.

Chiefs GM Scott Pioli told Jack Harry of NBC Action News that the early results on Berry are looking good.

"Athletically, he's tremendous," Pioli said. "Work ethic wise, he's a real pro for a young guy. It was a credit to Eric himself to make sure he got in here on time. It was important to him to get here on time. We worked hard, both sides, to get him here on time.

"When you're talking about picking a guy that high, our philosophy from our organization now and moving forward, the people that you pay is just as important as the player on the football field. This is a guy that really knows what to do."

The Chiefs have signed guys like Thomas Jones and retained guys like Mike Vrabel because their influence stretches off the field as well as on.

It would appear through over one week of camp that the Chiefs got the best of both worlds with Berry.
