Chiefs Draft Pick Contracts Beginning To Take Shape

We're back once again with an update on where the Kansas City Chiefs stand with their 2010 NFL draft picks. As of now, there are no new signings to report.

The Chiefs have signed OLB Cameron Sheffield, S Kendrick Lewis and TE Tony Moeaki so far. That leaves four left to sign.

Here's a quick update on the rest of 'em.

S Eric Berry (1st round)

Only one first round pick has signed but the Rams recently said they're confident first overall pick Sam Bradford will sign by the start of training camp later this week. That may be a bit optimistic but a Bradford deal would certainly get the ball rolling on the rest of the top ten.

WR/RB Dexter McCluster (2nd round)

The contracts of the guys around him are beginning to take shape.

35. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Brian Price, DT, UCLA - Signed (4-years, $5.32M; $3.55M guaranteed)
36. Kansas City Chiefs - Dexter McCluster, WR, Mississippi
37. Philadelphia Eagles - Nate Allen, S, South Florida
38. Cleveland Browns - T.J. Ward, S, Oregon - Agreed to Terms (4-years, financial terms undisclosed)

it might be a little tricky because Nate Allen has essentially been guaranteed a starting job in Philadelphia which could prompt his agent to ask for more money based on that. We'll see how things shake out though.

CB Javier Arenas (2nd round)

Arenas recently hired a new agent and we have no idea where they stand on negotiations.

The closest draft pick to Arenas that has signed is three spots behind him so that doesn't help much. But usually these second round picks, third round picks and so on have a domino effect. Once a few of them start signing, the rest fall in line.

G Jon Asamoah (3rd round)

This should be getting done any day now.

67. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Myron Lewis, S, Vanderbilt - Signed (4-years, $2.72M; $930,100 signing bonus)
68. Kansas City Chiefs - Jon Asamoah, G, Illinois - Signed (4-years, $2.7M; ~$900,000 guaranteed)
69. Oakland Raiders - Jared Veldheer, OT, Hillsdale - Signed (4-years, $2.685M; $895,000 signing bonus)

[Editor's Note: The Asamoah deal hasn't been announced and it's not believed to be complete.]

There isn't much to haggle about here. Maybe a few grand. The rumor making the rounds is that they're close and a deal will be announced soon.
