I spent my afternoon at the Bloch Cancer Survivors Park for the 25th annual Kansas City Celebration of Life Rally. The guest of honor was Len Dawson, who was the recipient of the 2010 Richard A. Bloch Cancer Survivorship Award.
The day took on an especially personal meaning for me as I had spent my morning (and afternoon) at KU Medical Center with someone close to me battling cancer.
I'll have more on the events this afternoon (and Lenny's speech) but I wanted to share with you a letter Chiefs president Denny Thum wrote for Len Dawson. Mr. Thum was traveling and wasn't able to be in attendance but the letter was read to the crowd.
Dear Len,
On behalf of the entire Kansas City Chiefs organization, I'd like to personally congratulate you on being named the recipient of the 2010 Richard A. Bloch Cancer Survivorship Award. You have been a particularity candid and effective spokesman for prostate cancer screening and detection over the years.
There is no question you've saved numerous lives with your ongoing efforts. Please know we appreciate all the contributions you continue to make to the Chiefs organization and the Kansas City community.
While we will always have many reasons to be proud of you at One Arrowhead Drive, we are particularly pleased that you are being honored for this award. We couldn't think of a more deserving recipient for this honor.
Congratulations.
Sincerely,
Denny Thum
President of the Kansas City Chiefs Football Club
