The Chiefs on Friday reached back into the undrafted free agent pool and came out with another tight end.
Cody Slate comes from Marshall and stands 6'3" and 240 pounds (per CBSSports.com).
He was selected to the All-Conference USA First Team as voted on by the coaches.
Last December, he was lost for the season with a knee injury. He ended 2009 with 50 receptions for 607 yards.
For his career, he had 199 receptions, 2,619 yards and 23 touchdowns.
Another tight end was a necessity as both Brad Cottam and rookie Tony Moeaki haven't participated in any OTAs thus far due to injuries.
Look for Slate to fill a body during camp. He'll have his work cut out for him to find a spot on the roster, especially considering another rookie free agent tight end, Leroy Banks, has drawn some nice reviews.
Here's some stats on him as well as a highlight video.
This leaves the Chiefs with 87 roster players. They are only allowed 80 players under contract but the seven draft picks and S Jarrad Page have yet to sign so the Chiefs can sign one more body assuming none of those contracts are done.
