Good morning AP, and thank you to Joel for covering for me on short notice yesterday. Today's Kansas City Chiefs news has updates on offseason activities with Carr and Urban, a look back at defensive greats, and tweets. Enjoy.
Although most NFL players consider golfing downtime, Carr is focused on the sport for a serious reason.
He wanted a better showing at the second-annual golf outing he hosts to raise money for his former high school's football team. He described his play last year as "pretty much a trial and error."
"It was nothing to brag about last year," Carr said while autographing posters before Sunday's event. "Hopefully, this year will be a lot better."
For Carr, it was. A strong start turned into erratic play, but he did something that showed a marked improvement from last year.
He hit the ball every time he swung.
Kansas City and Jackson County officials have cooperated recently to start a regional jail, pledge support to regional transit and even vet economic development projects. But this they can’t agree on, at least so far: spending on the upkeep of the Truman Sports Complex. Each year, the city, county and Missouri combine to give $8.5 million for stadium maintenance and other costs. The city’s share has long been $2 million. Cracks in that agreement appeared two years ago when Mayor Mark Funkhouser called publicly for an end to the city’s subsidy of the stadiums. Throughout the years, the Kansas City Chiefs organization has prided itself on its many defensive-minded teams, especially from the 1970's through the 1990's. From Thomas to Thomas(Emmitt to Derrick) the passion, heart and desire has been there time and time again. I have assembled the All-Time Chiefs Defense and Special Teams unit, as if they were to take the field as a team, all together.Kansas City Chiefs History: All-Time Defense and Special Teams from Bleacher Report
Horn played four years with the Kansas City Chiefs before playing for New Orleans, and he played his final season with the Atlanta Falcons in 2007 after the Saints released him in March of that year.
"Joe was one of our club's best free-agent signings ever," New Orleans General Manager Mickey Loomis. "I enjoyed seeing him develop into one of the NFL's top receivers as a Saint. He is certainly one of the top all-time Saints. Given his relationships and the impact that he had both within the organization and in our community, it is only appropriate that he retire a Saint."

Derrick Ross is an opportunist.
The star running back for the San Angelo Stampede Express was given an opportunity to resume the football career he had put on hold and he made the most of it this season...
...The next day he received a call from the Kansas City Chiefs inviting him to training camp as an undrafted free agent.
The Chief’s featured back, Priest Holmes, was pondering retirement after suffering a career-threatening neck injury, and they needed a back up to Larry Johnson who was to enter the season as the new starter.
"That was the opportunity I was looking for," Ross said. "I knew if I just had a chance I could prove that I belonged."
Ross did enough to impress first-year Kansas City head coach Herm Edwards and earned an NFL contract.

Urban signed a free-agent contract with the Kansas City Chiefs in March after spending the last three seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. Urban enjoys returning to his hometown and sharing what he learned about the game at Stroman High School, Trinity University, and in the NFL. Urban was joined at the camp by high school coaches and former teammates at Trinity. "It's always different because some of the other things are going on that you have to react to," Urban said. "I'm so grateful to these guys because so many of the coaches and the Trinity guys have been here all three years. Urban football camp a hot ticket from The Victoria AdvocateWood-Dvorak was one of 60 high school players attending Urban's third annual football camp, which was free of charge and attracted participants from as far away as Austin.
"I usually don’t like to watch big games in big crowds," he says. "But how could I not come out here?"
Here is the Power & Light District, where some 10,000 people have gathered to watch the USA and Ghana on the video screen despite temperatures in the mid-90s and views blocked by beer stands or taller fans.
The people who run the place say it’s the busiest they’ve ever seen the KC Live! block, an eclectic mix of young and old, men and women, some who cheer good midfield passes and others who wonder why the time on the clock moves up and not down.
There are women in high heels and women pushing strollers, guys with preppy shirts, guys with tattoos and guys with preppy tattoos. It’s quite possible the national anthem has never been sung louder, though it was still punctuated with that disappointing "Chiefs!" at the end.
Landon Donovan’s goal caused adults to jump on top of each other. Beer sprayed down from above. Plastic cups and food wrappers and goodness knows what else leaped in the air, nobody caring nearly as much about the mess as the tied score.
If soccer was a nothing sport in this country, enjoyed only by a small fringe, this scene — broadcast internationally during an ABC cutaway — would not exist.
