Harvey Unga, former BYU running back, is entering the supplemental draft. Unga, who was kicked out of BYU for reportedly having premarital sex -- a no-no at BYU -- was eligible to return to the school in 2011 but has elected to enter the supplemental draft instead.
We previously passed along a report that the Chiefs front office had spent "over an hour" on the phone with Unga and were one of a few teams expressing interest in his services.
As it turns out, they're not the only ones interested. Mike Berardino of the Sun-Sentinel reports the Dolphins will also be in attendance at his pro day. Per Berardino, there are expected to be 20 teams watching his July 8 pro day.
The Chiefs of course are expected to be one of the 20.
Meanwhile, after my latest posting on Unga, I received an email from a BYU fan who had some good words on Unga's abilities at the next level:
As for his abilities - he's a solid player, performed well against BCS schools as well as Mountain West crap. May have to be a fullback in the right system in NFL. The two guys that blocked for him (when we went to the I formation) are in the NFL now (both tongans - Fui Vakapuna with the Bengals and rookie Manosa Tonga with the Raiders - their predecessor, Fahu Tahi starts at FB for Minn Vikings). He will have the ability to pick up the offense quick and always block for QB / TB. Has great hands and is a nightmare to bring down.
The Chiefs are seemingly set at running back but Thomas Jones is 32 years old. Unga, for the right price, may be worth it.
Anyone doing a supplemental mock draft? I'm just kidding. (No, really, I am kidding. No more mock drafts for a while)
