Chiefs Training Camp Facility Making Progress

The Chiefs are getting closer and closer to training camp in St. Joe this summer. They'll arrive July 29 and start practicing the following day. Missouri Western State University is getting a facelift with a few new facilities to prepare for the Chiefs arrival.

Mike Halloran, director of athletic facilities, recently gave an update to the progress being made at MWSU.

"The indoor facility [might be] a little ahead of schedule. Some of the things we've seen recently are they've started to clear the parking lots, pour curbs, getting ready for asphalt to go down for the actual parking and doing a lot of concrete and landscape work around the facility.

"Indoors, the office complex really is pretty close to complete. They're laying turf in the indoor practice facility. It's a pretty strenuous and time-consuming job. They cut out all the numbers, hash marks and all the markings on the field so that takes a little bit of time. That's the next project in the indoor facility."

The bulk of the Chiefs work will be taking place at the practice facilities.

The Chiefs wanted to "mirror" the playing surface of the practice fields with the one they use at Arrowhead.

"It's going to add something to the entire complex having these state-of-the-art facilities for the athletes and students after the Chiefs are gone."
