The Chiefs on Monday announced they had signed two players that participated in the Chiefs rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.
Akron DB Andre Jones (5'11", 180 pounds) and Kansas State DL Jeffrey Fitzgerald (6'4", 280 pounds) are now Chiefs. Jones is a do-it-all defensive back and returner who has experience on the offensive side of the ball. Fitzgerald should be a familiar name to a lot of folks in the Kansas City area.
Those two are the second and third players signed by the Chiefs that participated in the rookie minicamp on a tryout basis. Notre Dame WR David Grimes is the first.
The Chiefs also successfully put in a waiver claim on TE Leroy Banks (6'3", 243 pounds). He originally signed with the Falcons shortly after the draft as an undrafted free agent before being released. The connection here could be Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff and Chiefs GM Scott Pioli.
This puts the Chiefs roster at 85 players. The maximum is 80 players but the seven draft picks and S Jarrad Page are not technically signed yet so they don't count towards that 80 number.
