With The 37th Pick in the Arrowhead Pride Mock Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles Select...

fairmont with the pick...

NFL fans have long thought of the Philadelphia Eagles defense as a crazy, blitz-any- way- any-down, smash your face, stomp your head, eat the quarterback's guts kind of squad. For years Eagle fans have delighted in owning one of the baddest D's in the league. Unfortunately with the passing of time those feared defenses have lost a step and with the passing of their beloved defensive coordinator, Jim Johnson, they lost their heart. The Eagles performed well on defense against the run (9th) and 3rd (44) in sacks but did not live up to expectations in the passing game where they ranked 16th in passing defense. All signs would point to a secondary overhaul, but the stats may be a bit misleading in this case.

We Chiefs fans know all too well that if you have inferior front 7 play in passing situations, the secondary is going to get torched, no matter who is playing back there. The Eagles suffered from terrible luck and play at the linebacker position. They had ZERO LB's ranked in the top 50 for combined tackles among LB's, and only two in the top 100, Akeem Jordan at 57th and Will Witherspoon (no longer an Eagle) at 78th. Solo tackles were equally woeful as they had one solo tackler ranked in the top 50 among LB's, squeaking in at 49th was Akeem Jordan. Sure the Eagles put up great sack numbers but that credit goes to their Defensive Ends with 22.5 sacks. In fact no Eagle Linebacker had more than 1.5 sacks last year. Those numbers tell me that the Eagle linebackers underperformed and had serious health issues.

With the 37th pick of the 2010 draft (Sorry ChuckDiesel), The Philadelphia Eagles select Daryl Washington, OLB, TCU.

At 6-2, 230Lbs and a 4.5 40yd time, Washington projects as a Weak side OLB with the speed to move sideline to side line as well as cover a back out of the backfield. He has great closing speed and while he just started one season, was very productive for the Horned Frogs with 109 tackles (68 solo), 2 sacks, 3 INTs and 4 career blocked punts. He may be a bit of a raw talent, Washington will be well worth the 5th pick in the second round and should help the Eagles defense get a bit of that old swagger back.

First round results are here.
