ESPN's Bill Williamson has broken down some of Scott Pioli's drafting tendencies while he was with the Patriots for nearly a decade.
Williamson notes that in Pioli's career, his team has had a top 13 pick on nine occasions.
Seven of those occasions resulted in a defensive player drafted.
Of those seven, five came from the SEC.
So that means Eric Berry is in play? Sure.
It also means Rolando McClain is in play.
And Terrence Cody.
And Joe Haden.
I feel that the part about taking defensive players seven of the nine picks may be worthwhile. That shows a trend toward the defense at the top of the draft. But the fact they were from the SEC doesn't necessarily mean a whole lot. It just means that the SEC produces a lot of NFL players, which is no surprise.
