Florida C Maurkice Pouncey Has Workout Scheduled With The Chiefs

Courtesy of WtexKC in the FanShots, we've seen a report from Jeremy Fowler of the Orlando Sentinel that Florida center Maurkice Pouncey has a workout scheduled with the Chiefs.

Pouncey is among the best interior linemen in the draft and certainly the top center prospect. Interior linemen usually aren't taken as high as Pouncey will likely go.

However there's a chance he could be of particular interest to the Chiefs.

While they might be set at center for the 2010 season with Casey Wiegmann and Rudy Niswanger, a solid, big center will be necessary for the future. Four times a year the Chiefs center will face right over a big nose tackle in the Broncos and Chargers 3-4 defense. The Raiders even have two big defensive linemen -- Tommy Kelly and Richard Seymour -- in their 4-3 defense.

Projections I've seen have him in the second round and some as high as the end of the first round. So if the Chiefs wanted him, it'd likely have to be at that first second round pick.

That is if he even gets to the Chiefs. The Jets, Steelers and Vikings have workouts scheduled with him and they could conceivably take him in the first round.

The Broncos are also scheduling a workout with him. Mile High Report actually took him with the 11th pick in the SB Nation mock draft.
