Brian Waters: Moving Branden Albert Would Be "Ridiculous"

You can always count on Brian Waters to speak the non-sugar coated truth. He did just that at the opening of the new Smashburger restaurant in Overland Park on Wednesday.

(Ed. Note: Smashburger is donating a portion of its proceeds to the Brian Waters 54 Foundation for the next week so stop by at least once if you're in the area.)

Waters talked about quite a few things -- and we'll address most of them -- but the one that caught my eye was his defense of Branden Albert.

"I think Branden's got the worst wrap out of anyone on our football team in the last two years," he said. "Without a shadow of a doubt he's a left tackle. Without a shadow of doubt he can play football."

I think you see where this is going. Waters thinks the Chiefs already have a left tackle. So all that talk of taking Russell Okung at the fifth pick if he's there?

"The moving him to guard thing is totally ridiculous to be honest with you," he said. "It's a totally different thing in college.

"Moving him to right tackle would be the worst thing for him and the team as well because even if you did draft a tackle high, and move him to right, you basically have two new guys and now you're basically starting him over and you have another rookie."

Waters is well aware of the fact that he's on the downside of his career and, like Tony Gonzalez last year, doesn't want to start over. In addition to that, he's standing up for one of his teammates. The offensive line is a fraternity of sorts so it's nice to see one defending another.
