Chiefs' Charles Wants To Win Offensive Player Of The Year

Jamaal Charles accepted last night the Kansas City Chiefs team MVP award -- known as the Derrick Thomas award -- as voted on by his teammates. He was grateful to all those that supported including his grandpa, who had passed away last season.

"I wanted to honor his name," Charles said.

The Chiefs team MVP award isn't the end goal for Charles as he said he's setting his sights on a much larger goal in 2010.

"Hopefully next year I'll be here accepting another award. Not the Chiefs award but the offensive player of the year award," he said smiling.

Somehow I think he is very serious in that regard despite the smiles. Also there last night at the 101 Banquet in Kansas City was Peyton Manning accepting the AFC offensive player of the year award.

"Next year," Charles continued, "I just want to start off like I started this year. I want to bring back tradition to the Chiefs as a winning organiation. I love winning. I won all through college and high school.

"I just want to bring back the winning to the community and win more games for you all. Hopefully we can do that."
