Redskins Eye Former Chiefs Tight End Sean Ryan

The Washington Redskins are keeping an eye on former Kansas City Chiefs tight end Sean Ryan, Ed Thompson of Scout.com reports.

Ryan was originally signed by the Chiefs days before the 2009 NFL Draft. He opened the season as the starter following Tony Gonzalez's departure. He was the talk of the team early on catching two touchdown passes in the Chiefs first four games.

However, that's all he would catch for the rest of the season as he wound up being inactive on most gamedays down the stretch.

Ryan is familiar with Todd Haley being drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the fifth round of the 2004 draft.

The Chiefs had seven players scheduled to be unrestricted free agents. They retained one (Mike Vrabel) and may have lost another (Wade Smith).

Ryan will turn 30 years old later this month.
