Chiefs Will Release WR Devard Darling, RB Dantrell Savage

The Kansas City Chiefs will have two fewer players by the end of the day. According to Josh Looney of KCChiefs.com, the Chiefs will announce the release of WR Devard Darling and RB Dantrell Savage.

Darling of course tore his ACL in the offseason and never participated in the Todd Haley offense during the 2009 regular season. In a statement after the ACL tear he said, "I am confident I will be able to return next season with the same speed and explosiveness you have seen from me in the past

Doesn't look like it. He had at least several million dollars remaining on his contract and was originally signed during the Herm Edwards era on March 11th, 2008.

Darling, 27, was originally drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the 3rd round of the 2004 draft.

Savage was signed by the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2008. He lasted two seasons and a regime change, which is pretty good for a UDFA.

Savage ended the season on injured reseve.

Both players will hit now hit free agency. And kudos to the Chiefs for making these moves now in order to give both players a shot at finding a new team.
