The question has been asked before around here.
How much is the Chiefs new coaching staff helping in free agency?
Answer: It's definitely helping and it's helping with key players.
WR Chris Chambers recently credited Charlie Weis and the Chiefs coaching staff as a reason for his return to Kansas City.
"The whole time I felt like in the back of my head I felt like I was going to be back in Kansas City and that's what my agent was pushing for," he said to Soren Petro on the Red Zone Podcast. "I had interest from other teams but all and all they didn't offer me what the Chiefs could do for me. I think the coaching staff they picked up this year, I think that helped my decision.
"It made sense for my career to come back."
Todd Haley also told the players after the season that an offseason goal was to stabilize the coaching staff.
Whether it's a good thing or bad thing is yet to be determined, but Chambers said laughingly that he's heard Weis has a similar coaching style to Haley.
"I heard a lot of great things [about Weis]," he said. "Heard he can be a tough coach but that's what it takes to get it done at times when you're trying to win games."
The additions of Weis and Romeo Crennel are helping not only the current crop of players, but they're important tools in the recruitment of other players in free agency.
