The one overarching question that many fans have is are we at a turn around point in Chiefs history? Was the way it was being done before, wrong? And is the way, or direction, the Chiefs are going now, right?
I can tell you that there are reasons that I think this organization is going in the "right" direction. And I could present those points as evidence. However, I decided to be a little more creative and present the situation, the recovery, the turn around as a short story.
What will come next is a short story about the two worlds Chiefs fans have experienced over the past 22 or so years.
After reading the beginning of the Chiefs story, please read the story backwards (the turn around if you will) for how I think it will end.
Once upon a time Carl Peterson became our architect and expressed a vision by saying...
"We are part of a lost Chiefs organization and our leaders can turn it aound.
This may come as a surprise to some of you but
teams are built upon good drafts
is a lie, and
changing offensive and defensive philosophies every three years is the way to go
So in 20 years I will show the Super Bowl seekers
they are not the most important thing to the Chiefs
players signed to simply make a "splash" will know that
the Chiefs have their priorities straight because
building a team that looks good together
is more important than
building a team that plays good together
I tell you this
once upon a time
football teams won playoff games
But this will not be true in my era
this is a money-first driven league
experts tell me
20 years from now I will be celebrating how many millions of dollars I grew this franchise
I do not concede that
I will be running a team of my own making
in the future
losing seasons will be the norm for the Chiefs
no longer can it be said that
my colleagues and I care about the fans that want winning first
It will be evident that
I am a great business man that has no viable plan to reach the Super Bowl
It is foolish to presume that
There is hope."
Once upon a time Scott Pioli became our Architect and turned this vision around by saying...
