The buzz around the Kansas City Chiefs the last few days is what a great value they got in Thomas Jones. The contract is short (two years) and includes little money ($5 million). Jones of course is coming off a career year so a lot of folks think it's a solid, short-term deal.
Apparently, the Jets declined the chance to match the Chiefs offer, according to PFT's Mike Florio.
This is interesting on a number of levels and I've got a few questions.
First, what about the report from Jim Trotter of SI.com that Jones has too much pride to return to a team that cut him?
Second, do the Jets know something about Jones that the Chiefs don't, thus the reason for declining to match the offer?
Third, did the Jets feel they could get a better value out of another one of the veteran running backs (Tomlinson, Westbrook, etc)?
Anyone know the answers to those? I sure don't.
