It seemed a little strange to me that the Kansas City Chiefs never showed an interest in WR Matt Jones, formerly of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Jones, who was out of football in 2009, was a first round pick and put up respectable statistics in 2008. The Chiefs of course struggled finding the right mix of receivers throughout the season. Plus, Todd Haley is a former receivers coach so it seemed that if anyone was going to get the most of Jones, it would be someone like Haley.
Jones recently signed with the Cincinnati Bengals but that didn't stop two team sources telling Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports (via stagdsp) that he had a terrible workout last week before signing with the team.
"It was one of the worst workouts I have ever seen. I don’t care how fast his 40 time is or was, he’s a slow-twitch athlete."
"He obviously has great size, but not even that is much of an advantage when you don’t move very fast. He’s not really the solution to what we need."
And for the knockout punch, one of Jones' former coaches in Jacksonville:
"He has always had the athletic ability. The desire, that’s another matter. All I’ll say is that it’s up to Matt what kind of player he wants to be."
With endorsements like that, something tells me he might be available come training camp.
