The Greatest Kansas City Chiefs, By the Numbers: #47

No reason to grab coffee this morning AP readers. Just read this blog post and get excited about Don Martin! Willie Osley! and Todd Scott! Yes, it is a bit sad that those three make over two-thirds of the Kansas City Chiefs players who have worn #47. Nevertheless, we push on with the Greatest Chiefs.....

Today's list is one of the few times that I would say that the current Chief wearing the number has the best and most deserving shot to win the poll. Jon McGraw's three seasons in KC are better than pretty much all of these guy's time in KC.

Plus, McGraw inspired one of the greatest FanPosts ever on Arrowhead Pride. You gotta respect that.

  • S Chris Golub (1977)
  • CB Alphonso Hodge (2005-06)
  • CB Don Martin (1975)
  • S Jon McGraw (2007-09)
  • DB Willie Osley (1974)
  • S Todd Scott (1997)
  • RB Chris Smith (1986-87))

Read more about these guys after the jump...

S Chris Golub (1977)

A 7th round pick out of KU, Chris Golub played in exactly one game in the NFL.

CB Alphonso Hodge (2005-06)

Despite being a 5th round pick by the Chiefs in '05, Hodge didn't make the 53-man squad and spent the first ten weeks of the '05 season on the practice squad. He spent part of the '06 season on the PUP list and never registered any stats with the Chiefs.

CB Don Martin (1975)

Martin played one of his three NFL seasons in KC after being drafted by the Raiders in the 7th round of the 1976 draft. He played fourteen games for the Chiefs and had one fumble recovery.

S Jon McGraw (2007-08)

Coming out of K-State, McGraw was  a second round pick by the New York Jets in 2002. He played three season in New York; two more in Detroit; and has spent his last three seasons as a Chief.

As a Chief, he's played in 42 games as a backup at safety. He has two INTs and one forced fumble during his time in KC. He also inspired one of the greatest FanPosts of all-time on Arrowhead Pride.

DB Willie Osley (1974)

Osley was a 10th round pick by the Chiefs out of Illinois. And completely opposite to what would happen today, Osley was signed to the team by May 15th. He only played in three games for the Chiefs and only played in the NFL for one season.

S Todd Scott (1997)

Scott actually made the Pro Bowl in 1992 with the Minnesota Vikings before playing his final NFL season in KC in 1997. As a Chief, he played in 10 games and registered no significant stats.

RB Chris Smith (1986-87)

And after getting to #47 in this series, I've found my second typo from the Chiefs' official web site. I use the Chiefs' all-time historical roster list to compile these jersey number posts and that list has a Chris Smith listed as a wide receiver who played in 1973.

He's actually a running back who played in 1986 and 1987 for the Chiefs. He played in one game in '86 and played as a scab for a few games during the strike in the '87 season. He had 26 rushing attempts for 114 yards in the '87 season.
