The Kansas City Chiefs made a number of roster moves on Wednesday which got kicked off with the news that CB Jackie Bates would be placed on injured reserve. Bates injured his knee two weeks ago -- which contributed to the Chiefs signing CB Mike Richardson -- and has now been placed on IR ending his season.
This created an open roster spot on the 53-man roster which will be filled by QB Tyler Palko, who was signed off the practice squad. Palko was with the team throughout training camp so he knows the system but it's still somewhat of a confusing move. The Chiefs have made it 12 games with just two quarterbacks. Why add one now?
The move on Palko created an open spot on the practice squad which will be filled by LB Micah Johnson. After the 2010 NFL draft, he signed with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent before being released in June. He later signed on with the Miami Dolphins before being released the second week of the season.
Surprised by any of these moves? I am a bit by the news that Palko has been added considering the Chiefs had been fine to this point with just two quarterbacks on the active roster.
