Last week on ESPN's Sunday Morning Countdown, Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen said not to be surprised if Charlie Weis leaves the Kansas City Chiefs and a potential replacement would be Josh McDaniels. That was surprising to most of us.
The latest rumor on the subject comes from Pat Dooley of the Gainesville Sun who passes along rumors (not a report) that Weis could be headed to the University of Florida as offensive coordinator (via Sports By Brooks):
"In terms of Florida's Offensive Coordinator, if you're driving in your car, I want you to pull over. When I say this, you're going to freak out. I think this is going to happen but I don't know that it's going to happen. That's why you won't see it in the paper (Gainesville Sun) tomorrow unless I get another source on it."
That's the crux of the rumor....but there's more.
ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports Weis to Florida is "likely" but gives no timetable. Kent Babb of the KC Star says Todd Haley was asked about the report and said "it was first he'd heard of it, but he didn't deny anything." To get all the big boys involved, Jason La Canfora of NFL Network "confirms" reports that Weis could be headed to Florida.
There's definitely something going on here if all these reporters are "confirming" the reports. Remember when the Chiefs first hired Charlie Weis, and who had the first set of quotes from him on coming to Kansas City? It was Mort.
Something is going on here.
