It's been a good week for Kansas City Chiefs QB Matt Cassel. Last Sunday, he put up four touchdown passes in a KC Chiefs blowout victory over the Seattle Seahawks. A couple days later he was named the AFC's offensive player of the month for November.
Now Cassel can add to his hardware (if they give out, you know, actual hardware for this): He's been named the FedEx Air player of the week, the NFL announced on Friday. Cassel, Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler and New England Patriots QB Tom Brady were among those who were up for the award.
RB Jamaal Charles was a candidate for the FedEx Ground player of the week for his 173-yard performance against the Seahawks but ultimately lost out to Cleveland Browns RB Peyton Hillis, who put up 131 yards and three touchdown last week.
Charles is the only other Chief to win this award when he took home the FedEx Ground player of the week in Week 8.
The real good news for Kansas City is this: FedEx is making a $2,000 donation in each of the winning players' names to the local Safe Kids USA coalitions in Kansas City and Cleveland to support pedestrian safety improvements.
