Arrowheadlines: Chiefs News 12/29

Good morning everyone. NJ Chiefs Fan is still trying to get back to the east coast so here's your late edition of Arrowheadlines. We've got some Pro Bowl talk and then we're beginning to look at the Raiders.

Bowe, Charles and Waters chosen for Pro Bowl - KansasCity.com
Waters represents an offensive line that helped make the Chiefs the league’s leading rushing team. Waters is 33 and playing in his 11th season for the Chiefs, so Haley couldn’t describe him as a young, developing player like Bowe and Charles. "Even at this stage of his career, Brian made progress," Haley said. "He rededicated himself to his craft and to this team and he bought in. When you have a veteran leader the caliber of Brian do that for you, that’s a big thing. It had a big impact on our team making the progress it has."

The rosters for the all-star game are not set in stone and with the game the week before the Super Bowl, those players selected from the teams participating in the championship game must be replaced. Say Atlanta (seven) and New England (six) are playing at Jerry’s World in Arlington, Texas for the league title. That’s 13 players that must be replaced. By the time the shuffling is done, I would expect at least one more member of the Chiefs to be selected, probably Cassel.

Off To Hawaii
Kansas City’s three invites are the least of any division championship team that the franchise has produced. The previous low for a Chiefs division champion was five Pro Bowlers on the 1993 squad. Ironically, that ’93 squad fared better than any team in franchise history since the NFL/AFL merger in 1970.

Momentum: The Chiefs would love to finish 11-5, by knocking off a rival, finishing the home season 8-0 and rolling into the playoffs. New England factor: If the Chiefs are No. 4, they will be poised to play at the top-seed Patriots in the divisional round. If the Chiefs are the No. 3 seed and they win in the first round, they’ll play at the No. 2 seed in the divisional round. That will be at either Pittsburgh or Baltimore. Plus, if things got crazy and the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds both lost in the divisional round, the No. 3 seed would be next up on the pecking order to host a title game.

Raiders have plenty to play for in Kansas City
The Raiders are learning how to win, and Cable commended players for improved commitment. "It's a process to get there," he said. "This week is just the last step for this year, and that is to go out and win a game and finish the season 8-8, stop the losing-record thing that has kind of been chasing this organization for a number of years as well as complete the sweep in the division. "I think that would be a heck of a deal for our football team and launch us into the future and the next year."

Meanwhile, there is chance Oakland guard Robert Gallery could leave as a free agent. Know this: If the Raiders want him, they sign him. Oakland is known for paying its own top dollar to keep them.
