There aren't very many people who are on a first name basis with the entire city of Kansas City. Marty is one. So is Carl and Lenny, too. Perhaps Matt and Todd are on their way.
Chiefs QB Matt Cassel is within striking distance of Len Dawson's franchise record for touchdown passes in a season. Cassel stands at 27 touchdown passes on the season which ties him with Trent Green's 2004 season as the third best in franchise history. He is now three touchdown passes away from tying Len Dawson's 1964 season of 30 touchdown passes.
Not to have another stop-and-smell-the-roses moment but Matt Cassel and Lenny Dawson? Wow.
Cassel passed a few statistical milestones on Sunday in the win over the Titans. He is now completing over 60 percent of his passes on the season (60.2), has 3,001 yards on the year and moves into second place behind Tom Brady for touchdown passes this year. His plus-22 touchdown-to-interception ratio is the best the Chiefs have ever seen surpassing Steve DeBerg's plus-19 and Lenny's plus-16. He's also now fifth in the NFL with a 98.8 quarterback rating -- sooo close to 100.
