We've talked before about the fact that no Kansas City Chiefs players were in the top 10 of the 2011 Pro Bowl voting but now it's official. The voting ended today and no Kansas City Chiefs players were chosen in the top 10 of overall voting and no Chiefs were at the top of their respective positions.
Without the San Diego Chargers, the AFC West would have been shut out of the fan Pro Bowl voting entirely. Phillip Rivers was a top 10 overall vote-getter and Antonio Gates topped the fans' list for the AFC tight end position. No Chiefs made it into the top five of the rookie Pro Bowl voting leaders either. The top five in the rookie voting were DT Ndamukong Suh, QB Sam Bradford, C Maurkice Pouncey, TE Rob Gronkowski, and RB Jahvid Best.
In my opinion, Jamaal Charles without a doubt deserves to go to the Pro Bowl. I don't think you can put Matt Cassel in there however, largely because he has some pretty difficult competition. Tom Brady and Peyton Manning lead the AFC QB vote. It would be tough to justify voting any of our rookies in as well, with Eric Berry probably being the Chiefs' best chance to make it there.
There's still hope for the Chiefs though. The fan voting is only one-third of the overall vote. Coaches and players both vote as well. I don't place a lot of emphasis (or even thought) on the Pro Bowl but this season I've kind of gotten award fever, what with the Chiefs winning them every week.
