In our excitement over the Kansas City Chiefs "road" victory over the St. Louis Rams, we never even mentioned that LB Derrick Johnson ended with a career high 17 tackles and four passes defensed.
I'm glad the NFL was paying attention.
The Chiefs announced on Wednesday that DJ was awarded the NFL's AFC Defensive player of the week award. DJ becomes the second Chief to win the award this year after Tamba Hali was recognized for his three sacks on Alex Smith and the San Francisco 49ers earlier this seaso.
The Chiefs release also notes that DJ and Hali are the first linebacker combo to win this award in the same year since 1991. It's the third time DJ has won it.
Kudos to DJ on a well-deserved award.
