Matt Cassel's Performance Resonates With Chiefs Players

Following the St. Louis Rams game I said it seems that Kansas City Chiefs fans are starting to warm up to Matt Cassel more and more with each passing week. He's been getting more consistent, throwing touchdown passes and protecting the ball and I think fans (read: me) were especially impressed with Cassel playing today considering the circumstances. Well, the stats were pretty average but some of his teammates said after the game they were excited to see him out there.

These are the kind of quotes I like to hear about the quarterback:

"When he got that first down and got up and did the tomahawk, I was ready to get back on the field," said DE Wallace Gilberry. "We definitely feed off each other and he’s our emotional leader and he leads by example."

Josh Looney of KCChiefs.com has a collection of quotes like this one from various Chiefs players that were picking up what Cassel was puttin' down today. [Note: In the picture, Cassel is spiking the ball after Thomas Jones scored. Kinda funny he took Jones' spike.]

We've been told Cassel's tough and we've been told if there's anyone who would come back in 11 days from an appendectomy, it'd be him. We've been told he's the leader of the team and all that. We've seen sparks of those things previously but I think we got a full dose of it today. I hate to be corny and say Cassel brought something today you don't see in the box score but I think some of that's the case here.

There is now two weeks left in the regular season. How are you feeling about your quarterback?
