Kansas City Chiefs QB Matt Cassel was on the field in pads warming up with others, according to Kent Babb of the Kansas City Star. That's the first step in Cassel's road to recovery after undergoing an appendectomy last week.
We don't know the extent of his practice and how he felt but 810 WHB reported that he wasn't doing all the stretches at practice which suggests there's still some soreness there. Cassel will be speaking with the media Wednesday afternoon but I wouldn't expect many updates from him.
(Update: The KC Star has a detailed run down of Cassel's practice at their blog.)
The Chiefs will issue their practice report this afternoon (around 3:00 p.m.) and declare his practice status as did not practice, limited in practice or a full participant in practice.
So what's next?
Doing the same thing on Thursday and Friday at practice. By Friday, the Chiefs will announce whether he is out, doubtful, questionable, or probable for the St. Louis Rams game.
We can't necessarily expect to learn a whole lot by his practice habits as only part of practice is open to the media but his presence leaves the door open for him to play on Sunday.
Curious what the line is on the game this weekend? So is Vegas, who is waiting to hear the status of Cassel.
