As everyone knows, the question of the week is whether Matt Cassel will be ready for Sunday's game between the Kansas City Chiefs and St. Louis Rams after undergoing an appendectomy one week ago today. The Chiefs will practice Wednesday through Friday and we'll find out on Friday afternoon whether he even has a shot at playing this weekend.
We won't get any definitive answers until game day but our quest to determine Cassel's status begins today as the Chiefs take the practice field this afternoon. Does he practice at all? Is he limited? Full participant? Any limitations at all? Expect practice updates from the media and then the Chiefs practice report, which comes out at 3:00 p.m. (Arrowhead time).
Cassel said on 810 WHB Monday morning that he's "day-to-day" while Chiefs head coach Todd Haley said Wednesday was the next key day in the process. Cassel told Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star that he was preparing as if he would play on Sunday.
Predictions on his availability? Here's an early one from Kent Babb of the Kansas City Star: "I'd say 60-40 he doesn't [play]. But I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he did or did not play." As it goes with injuries, that prediction is subject to change as the week goes on.
With the playoffs looming, each game remaining is the biggest we've seen around here since the 2006--2007 season. We'll see if the Chiefs will have their quarterback.
