KC Chiefs And The Rest Of The NFL Continue Big TV Ratings

Getty Images

Whenever I think of a potential lockout in the NFL, I think back to the ridiculous TV ratings games generate. Chiefs games dominate in Kansas City every week including Nov. 8-14 when they ranked sixth with a 35.8 rating, including a 56 percent share. Kansas City was one of 29 TV markets that had an NFL game as their top-rated program of the week.

Last year the NFL had nine games with over 25 million viewers. This year they've already matched that number. There have been 10 weeks of games and an NFL game has been the top rated program of the week all 10 times. The NFL holds the top 15 most-watched shows on TV since the season began (with Dancing With The Stars coming in at 16th).

The Ravens-Falcons game had five million viewers, which was the most viewers ever for a Thursday Night Football opener. Just think what would happen to that number if Time Warner would get on board?

The Chiefs-Raiders game the week before had even bigger ratings than the Denver game. Suffice to say the American public loves them some football.

If you're interested in the order, I put a listing of all Week 10 TV markets and their ratings after the jump.
