Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley talked a little bit about the Buffalo Bills defense as the two teams prepare to meet Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium.
Todd Haley was complimentary of the Bills defense but this is also the 32nd ranked unit in the NFL. There may be some potential there but in terms of actual production this group is not very good.
On the defense: "Defensively, there are a lot of talented and skilled players across the board."
I think Todd Haley is entering into coach-speak here.
On the defensive line: "They’ve always been one of the best defensive lines that you’ll see."
They've actually got some talent on the defensive line with Marcus Stroud and Dwan Edwards. That said this group is 32nd against the run. Todd Haley may be right in that they're "talented and skilled" but as far as getting the job done it's not happening.
On the linebackers: "The linebacking group I think you could put up against anybody."
Chris Kelsay, Paul Posluszny and Andra Davis aren't bad by any means but, like the defensive line, this team is getting torched on the run.
On the secondary: "And then some experienced secondary players led by number 20 in (Donte) Whitner, (Terrence) McGee and Drayton Florence, you have a pretty formidable defense."
Matt Cassel noted the talent in the secondary as well. I think this is where their strength lies. Terence McGee should be back, Jairus Byrd looks legit. They've got some good players there. Unfortunately for them the Chiefs may not have to attack the secondary very much.
