The Kansas City Chiefs announced two previously reported roster moves: WR Jeremy Horne has been signed to the practice squad and DL Atiyyah Ellison has been waived. Ellison's release creates an open spot on the active roster.
Taking that active roster will be LB Mark Simoneau, the Chiefs announced on Wednesday. Simoneau and a trio of linebackers worked out for the Chiefs about a month ago.
Kansas City area folks will remember him as the linebacker at Kansas State. He came into the league in 2000 and has played for the Atlanta Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles and New Orleans Saints.
Your distant Chiefs Connection is Saints head coach Sean Payton getting him in the Donte Stallworth trade a few years ago. Payton and Haley worked together under Bill Parcells.
Simoneau will be a special teams guy and fits that veteran mold the Chiefs talk about so often.
He spent 2009 on injured reserve with a reported torn triceps muscle.
