On Tuesday we'll get a barrage of NFL power rankings for Week 8 from across the web. I'm working on SB Nation's power rankings as we speak and I'm considering where the Chiefs belong. I decide to make things simple and break it down by record.
These are the teams that currently have a better record than the Chiefs.
5-1: New York Jets, New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers
5-2: Atlanta Falcons, Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens
*A Giants (4-2) win on Monday Night Football would put them in this category.
That's six -- possibly seven -- that currently have a better record than the Chiefs. Only three of those have less losses than KC. When you look at it this way, the Chiefs really are in the thick of things at the top of the league. I'd say they're knocking on the door of that second level of teams.
OK, here are the teams that are currently even with the Chiefs:
4-2: Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, New York Giants, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Seattle Seahawks
The Giants won't be on this list after tonight. This is an interesting split of teams because KC has lost to both Houston and Indy so they would be ahead of the Chiefs. Most would also say the Chiefs are a better 4-2 team than the Bucs or Seahawks. Maybe that's the homer in us talking but I think it's about right.
Seeing these teams, you could make a good argument the Chiefs should be in the top 10. I'm not sure yet where I'm going to rank the Chiefs. Any suggestions?
